Our Story

It all began back in the early 70’s with a passionately intrigued, fiercely strong and capable woman named Ursula Marie Pridham, who would become Australia’s first commercial female winemaker...

In a time where the wine industry - along with many others - were predominantly male dominated, Ursula (bottom right) never let this stop her, working impressively to transform the traditional style of Australian wine to be a much more approachable and elegant style that could be enjoyed by a younger market.

This was ground-breaking for the wine industry of the time and set the path for further growth of wine appreciation and consumption. As a result, the wine industry continued to grow steadily over the next 20 years until 1987, when Ursula and the family decided to call it a day and pursue other agricultural interests.

It was not until recently in 2015 that Ben Pridham, Ursula’s eldest son and a locally known viticulturist in Mclaren Vale, fulfilled his dream and passion of one day returning the name ‘Marienberg’ back to it’s cultural roots - the Pridham family, with the blessings of Ursula of course!

Working closely with his daughter Jemma, sons Byron and Lachlan and his wife Louise, the Pridham family have been able to breathe new life into the Marienberg brand preparing it for a successful local rebirth.

Together the family works to introduce a new range of modern classics that have been deeply inspired by the history that fell before them. A shared passion for wine culture and a drive to share it with loved ones and strangers of all ages bonds the Pridham family.
